Ayurveda is the oldest medical system in the world and its origin can be traced more than 4500 BC back in India. Indian systems of medicines are among the oldest medicinal systems in the world, provides leads to find therapeutically useful compounds from plants.Reverse Pharmacological approach on indigenous and folklore formulations can yield lead compounds with less toxicity, in short span at less cost. Peptic Ulcer Diseases (PUD) refers to spectrum of disorders that includes gastric ulcer (GU), pyloric channel ulcer, duodenal ulcer (DU) and postoperative ulcers at or near the site of surgical anastomosis. The present study relates to the pharmacological validation of the antiulcer efficacy of clinically used formulations Gunma Kudori Mezugu (GKM) a polyherbal Siddha formulation and Eladi churna (ELC) a polyherbal Ayurvedic preparation against asprin pyloric ligation induced gastric ulcer model and cysteamine induced duodenal ulcer model. From the conclusion it is clearly evident that the evaluated poly herbal formulations have ingredients which possess anti-ulcer property which strengthens the mucosal barrier and reduces ulcers.
